STEP 3

  • On the meeting day, between teacher and Reading Specialist., bring all documentation/data that has been collected.

  • During the meeting, ideas will be discussed and an action plan will be created for the student.

  • The teacher will call the parents within 48 hours of the meeting to discuss the action plan.

STEP 5

  • A follow-up in person or phone contact with Reading Specialist will be scheduled for 9-10 weeks after the initial meeting.

  • This meeting will determine if interventions will be continued, changed, or discontinued.

  • If progress and growth are not positively progressing based on assessments and observations, parents and staff will work together towards further testing.  This may include outside resources such as private evaluation or the CDE's Child Find process to help the student reach their full learning potential.

Step-by-Step Process for Teachers

STEP 1

  • Speak with the Reading Specialist when a student is struggling academically and discuss ideas to problem-solve.

  • Begin collecting data in your room (written work, WCPM (fluency), informal observations, report card, STAR Assessments, Iowa Assessments, etc.)

  • Contact parents to discuss concerns.

STEP 2

  • If there are no positive changes after two weeks, the teacher will fill out an "Initial Academic Support" form found under "Teacher Forms".

  • Schedule a meeting with Reading Specialist.

  • The teacher will contact parents to update them on meeting outcomes.

STEP 4

  • Following the meeting and parent notification, the Reading Specialist will help you implement the action plan.

  • Before working with students the Reading Specialist will send home an introduction letter.

  • The Reading Specialist will be in regular contact with teacher and family to collect data and/or progress monitor.
